IRISH E.U. TREATY REFERENDUM
June 20, 2008
No sooner have the people of Ireland given their verdict on the EU Treaty than they are being told how stupid they are. All day long as the results came in politicians and commentators here in Ireland have been competing with each other in a rush to condemn the ignorance of the Irish voters. We can dress it up any way we like but the bottom line is that if you are one of those who voted “No” then you are being called stupid…..and either way your vote doesn’t count as there will be another referendum in the near future and yet another after that until you eventually manage to get it ‘right’.
But one thing needs to be made clear at this point and that is the reason why exactly people voted “No”. People voted no because they are concerned with the level of immigration and the possible consequences of ‘human rights’ legislation emanating from Europe. They did not of course say this when asked in a recent Irish Times poll but this is not at all surprising as the only response would have been that they were all racists…This is not as fanciful as it might seem….. In fact just today we were being warned that we should not be happy to on the same side as M. Le Pen. And in this great tradition yet another Irish politician in between warning us of the dangers of racism just cannot resist having a go at the British. ….and all of this get more like something from Faulty Towers or Father Ted but there is little to laugh at here. Avril Doyle and those like her have only one concern and that is for their own wallets and purses…Her recent outburst had all the vehemence of a farmer’s land deal gone sour…..Gombeenism as an art form….and memories of the famine in the psyche and a deep insecurity….Gangsters and their mad bitches….like Eichmann demanding more efficiency …..and all for a new Europe. Whole populations on the move like wilderbeast (work will make you free) and an arsenal of words to silence those who dare to protest. All together and one for all. Everyone singing from the same hymn sheet. A united front. History on the march.
As a poet once wrote , “all this might be happening underwater”. Or perhaps Hitler did in fact escape from the bunker and is orchestrating all this from some Argentinian hideaway. But whatever the explanation all I keep thinking of are those old B movies I used to go to as a child. But science fiction has now become reality and the Brave New World is here to stay. Language has been hijacked in it’s service and now words can mean anything. Those who wish to build a new Europe on the labour of millions of the earths poorest inhabitants now call anyone who protests a racist…..
We are told that we do not understand the issues but we understand all too well. We’ve seen it all before…..the corporate state, propaganda and chicken farmers. The political elite were wrong in 1930’s Europe and they are wrong now. Peace , they tell us is the great winner. No wars in today’s new Europe. But why would any modern day land grabber or drug pusher want to start a war when they are getting it all on a plate as it is. We are warned about Le Pen while the white slavers take advantage of open borders under the beneficent eyes of the new Europeans…..Lunatics and asylums and a flexible language , cultural diversity without the culture. Rodge and Podge , vulgarity parading as art with no one to tell the difference. Cultural Centres erected by murders…..Tweedle dum and tweedle dee. All together now , “We’re on the one road , maybe the wrong road , we’re together now who cares”. Jew hating Islamic fanatics made welcome and all in the name of fighting racism…..Gobbles was right , you can tell them anything and it doesn’t even have to make any sense , just keep repeating it over and over. Wear them down…..we’re nearly there….just one more push. “Peace in our time” and “You never had it so good”. An old story and we all know how it ends.
Another referendum?. No means no? What is it that they don’t understand. As thick necked as any Hess and twice as dangerous. A new breed creating a new Europe. Oh yes , and the bankers pulling the strings just as they did in the old days. “What did you do in the war daddy?”. Daddy did nothing you fool , he was too busy fighting for same sex marriage and gay rights. He left you a property portfolio in place of a country. He was a man of his time. He was well though of in his day…..’a good European by all accounts. A YES man and proud of it.

All I know is that Ireland should be proud of itself for taking this stand. The EU is a bad idea on many levels and Ireland just went to #1 on my list of places to travel to next.

why all the talk of nazi germany and then the throwing in of ‘gay marriage’. are the rights you speak of not to be given to gay people also. you flap around like a hysteric. breath deeply. there is no corporate super state. you imagine it. because that is what you want to see. you won the vote. be happy. you won it, along with all the right wingers, spukers, hysterics, ultra right wingers and inward looking small minded little irelanders. it’s a sad old day.

Thank you for your comments. If you read the history of the EEC you will soon see that it IS about the creation of a corporate state and nothing else…It is not a benolevent organisation. It was brough into being by the same people who visited two world wars upon us.It imposes ‘rights’ on us while making damn sure that the right to strike is abolished not to mention the right to free speech. What rights do the homeless have in this new Europe? What rights do the marginalised have?. The EU is about global markets and nothing else. It is the greatest abuser of human rights itself. The free movement of labour ( young healthy only need apply). When was the last time you heard these new Europeans inviting the sick , the old , the infirm into Europe ?……It’s about money and nothing else…it’s always about money and power…The only rightwingers here are those who support this latter day facism..This modern Europe is more reactionary than McCarthy’s American and now finds racists under every bed in place of communists. Everything must be seen in its context and ‘human rights’ are no exception. When we see and hear a constant demand for one set of rights while far more fundamenatl ones are being abolished and denied we are entitled to ask why….I suggest everyone out there reads Alan Bullocks ,”Hitler.A study in tyranny” All you have to do then is change some of the names and you might be reading about contemporary Europe. This Europe is not tolerant of its critics. Everyone who disagrees with it is labeled ‘racist’. There is no place here for reasoned debate….And , most worrying of all there is no political representation for those who appose it. No , this is not a liberal organisation.

i think you are talking nonsense. to suggest that the homeless are powerless because of the eu is ridiculous. if you were interested in human rights you would realise that economic rights are fundamental to human rights also. and to attain these rights wealth has to be generated. it is difficult sometimes to balance capitalism and compassion but the eu does as well and better than any place on earth. your willful disregard of everything that has been achieved by the european project is just lazy intellectual vandalism.

I am well aware of the benifits that private enteprise has brought to us but I am also aware of the dangers of rampant imperialism. It is no accident that homelessness and such things are worse today that in the recent past and this has a great deal to do with the cultural climate that is found in the wake of materialistic societies..the massive infringements on what used to be basic human rights should be enough to make any sane person worried.
We live now in a society that is both right wing and racist but calls itself liberal and in the name of that liberalism supports some of the most reactionary forces in world history….it is also a society that is merciles with its critics..no room for reasoned debate here..there is no longer any meaningful opposition and we might almost be living in a one party state..
Capitalism can at one point in time be a great progressive force in shaping the world but it can also at another time be dangerous and reactionary..
Huge numbers of people no longer vote because it has been made quite clear that their opinions do not matter and are not even to be respected. There is an arrogance and thugary in the air that is unhealthy by any standards…..As I’ve said , just take some time reading modern European history…..

yes homelessness seems to rise in certain types of affluent societies. i think it can be blamed to a some degree on greed and lack of empathy in the community. but one can not legislate for greed and it is also safe to say that there are many other reasons why a person becomes homeless and the issue is hugely complex. you also say this society is right wing and racist and has no room for reasoned debate - i just can’t see that in a massive institutional manner. yes we as individuals are racist to one degree or another and casual racist terms are used lightly on the streets by too many. but i do not think we have europe or the institutions of the state to blame for that but rather ourselves and our narrow outlooks. prosperity had brought many changes to this country and to europe some very positive (even a fool can see that) and some negative. but it has not changed us into a quasi fascist country. i am interested in the way u define racist. in an earlier piece u name checked jean marie le pen but without overt comment on him. do you consider him a maligned person. because to my mind he is a clever racist fascist at the head of a vicious army of thugs. i have seen these skin heads in action. i do read about modern european history - but generally stear clear of the conspiracy theory section of bookshops.

Le Pen is a racist and there is nothing that can be said for the man but this society is no less racist but a lot more hypocritical. And Le Pen is far less dangerous than your average EU beaurocrat. This is a society that will call anyone a racist who objects to the worst kind of anti sematism that comes out of a large section of the muslim community. And anti sematism has always been a feature of Islam ..the fact that there are plenty of decent muslims does not alter this fact in any way. Racism in in the very fabric of our society ….which explains in part why this society is so preoccupied with it….we protest a little too much…
No matter what attack is made on society its answer is always the same ….the accusation of racism. And this is always made against the working class…the assumption is also always made that the working class not only are racist but also do not understand the bigger issues or are motivate by a fear based on ignorance ….if all the constant never ending acusation made against them were made against a black person or muslim people there would be an outcry… The manner in which the working class are abused in this fashion is racist in the same way that attacks against muslims would be racist. And this attack on the morals and intellect of the working class is relentless and brutal , in a word , it is nothing short of thuggary.
And behind all this is a cold and frightening reality that more and more people are afraid , yes really afraid to express an opinion on anything …
Prior to the London bombings the first people to complain about Muslim extreemism were muslims themselves who saw their mosques being taken over by dangerous fanatic. But their request , their many request for action by the police were ignored ironically because of ‘human rights legislation’. As a result of this many died and the Muslim community itself came under attack…..its the old trick of divide and conqure and none of this is an accident..
Rohm’s S.A. were to a large part homosexual and in much the same way many of those who shout loudest about racism are practicing the worst kind of racism against a class that is less powereful than them while some immigrant looks after their kids. Europe and the Irish state import only those who can work (and work cheap) and exclude those who are not going to make a profit for them…how much more racist can you get?
June 22, 2008 at 11:29 am
ok. you blame us for only ‘importing’ able bodied immigrants. well we don’t import anyone. people come here of their own volition. if those with disabilities do not come is probably not surprising but can hardly be a glaring source of shame for us. i am also not sure what you have to say about homosexuality. so there were homosexuals in the ss. there were homosexuals murdered in the camps alongside gypsy’s and jews also. you are thinking in a muddied way there. say what you have to say. yes islam has significant anti semitic orientation. but i feel your demonisation of muslims is simplistic and dangerous. there are social problems with the islamic populations in countries like uk and france but this can be as much to do with social alienation as it has with religion. take a look at the islamic population in the us and you can see a more integrated community with no place for extremist views. it is very dangerous to vilify a whole community. it allows us to be blinded to that communities humanity and opens up the possibility of extremist attacks against them. and if it is their anti semitism that bothers you so much than look no further that the catholic faith. true integration and not multiculturalism is the answer not rabble rousing. by the way, who is it that you complain of that calls the working class racist? you must be specific. otherwise your arguement is merely a rant. i do not see a wholescale media assault on the working class. who in particular do you have in mind or what organisation. and as to the statement that le pen is less dangerous that an eu beaucrat - trying telling that to the boy i saw savagely beaten by skinheads in lille two years age for being dark skinned. i think the comfort of ur armchair has dulled ur thinking.
